Covington contracts with the King County Sheriff's office to provide police services. The city employs a Chief of Police, 10 officers, one motorcycle officer and one detective. Through the contract, the city has access to all the advanced and specialized staff and equipment of the Sheriff's office. Fire services are provided by Kent Fire District.
