Derek Matheson

Derek Matheson is the City Manager of the City of Covington, a growing community of 17,360 residents in South King County. As Covington City Manager, Derek supervises the activities of all City departments and offers professional advice to the City Council.
Prior to Covington, Derek worked for the City of Federal Way for nearly 12 years, including six years as Assistant City Manager and seven months as Interim City Manager. He has acquired expertise in finance, budgets, human resources, comprehensive planning, economic development, capital projects, service enhancements and improvements, and intergovernmental and community relations.
Derek has a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Washington. His professional affiliations include the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Washington City/County Management Association (WCMA). He is an ICMA Credentialed Manager.
A King County native, Derek lives with his wife Meredith and daughters Lacey and Clara in Federal Way.
