Throughout the year, the Aquatics Center hosts several events like April Pools Day, Float-in Holiday Movie, Spooky Swim at Halloween, and much more. Please visit the City’s calendar of events to see what aquatic events are next.

Programs

Lap Swims: This is an opportunity for swimmers to train and exercise. Our lifeguards make every effort to manage the lap lanes and group swimmers according to ability and workout needs. We require circle swimming in lanes with 3 or more swimmers. There is no minimum age requirement, but participants must be swimming laps.

Public Swims: This is a time for children and families to practice their swimming skills or just have fun. Those wishing to swim in deep water must pass a swim test. All children under 6 years of age, or less than 48" in height must be accompanied in the water and directly supervised by an adult (18 and over) at all times. Younger children are encouraged to attend Family Swims.

Family Swims: This is another great time for families to practice their swimming skills or just have fun. During Family Swims, all children must be accompanied in the water by an adult (18 and over). Only three children per one adult.

Covington Aquatic Center Deep Water ExerciseDeep Water Exercise Class: Our Deep Water Exercise class gives one of the greatest aerobic and toning workouts available with absolutely no impact to the body’s joints. Workouts during this drop-in class include the use of the Hydro-Fit™ equipment provided by the pool. No swimming is required, but participants should be comfortable in deep water.

Shallow Water Exercise Class: This is a low impact class that provides a great aerobic and cardiovascular workout with muscle toning. No swimming is required.

Swimming Lessons: We offer the American Red Cross “Preschool Aquatics” program that consists of three levels of progressive swim instruction for children 4 and 5 years of age. We also offer the American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” program for children 6 years of age and older that is made up of six levels of swimming and water safety instruction. Most classes are 30 minutes in length and have a maximum of 5 students. All instructors are trained lifeguards and authorized American Red Cross instructors trained in teaching lessons and water safety. Private Swimming Lessons: For children or adults interested in 30 minutes of focused 1-on-1 instruction, private lessons are available. Semi-private instruction is also available for groups of 2 or more.

Competitive Swimming Lessons: For Learn to Swim Level 6 ability swimmers interested in an hour long coached lesson focusing on stroke refinement, swimming endurance, and competitive swimming skills. This class is a great workout and prepares individuals for competitive swim teams.

Springboard Diving Lessons: We offer a "Learn to Dive" program for children 6 years of age and older. The program covers diving fundamentals through advance technique.

Parent & Child Aquatics Classes: We offer the American Red Cross "Parent & Child Aquatics" program for parents and their children ages 6 months up to 4 years of age. This program lays the foundation for future aquatic skills. Parent & Child Aquatics classes are offered at the same time as Swimming Lessons.

Aquatic Volunteer Academy (AVA): A 25-hour course for 11-14 year olds that prepares them for volunteer opportunities at the Aquatic Center as a junior guard or instructor aide. (Received Washington Recreation & Parks Association’s Outstanding Program – Recognizing Exceptional Achievement in Aquatics Award)

Lifeguard Training: This is an American Red Cross certification course for individuals 15 years of age or older. Successful completion of this 30-hour long course results in Lifeguard Training & First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications. (We also offer Lifeguard & First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Challenge/Re-certification classes.)

Water Safety Instructor Course: This is an American Red Cross instructor authorization course for individuals 16 years of age or older. Successful completion of this 31-hour long course results in authorization to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons and other water safety classes.

Northwest Lifeguard Test Preparation Class: We offer this class to certified lifeguards preparing to take the Northwest Lifeguard Test.

Passes
3-month and 12-month passes are available for unlimited access to Public Swims, Family Swims, and Lap Swims. For price information, click here. 10-visit discount cards are also available for Lap Swims, and Water Exercise Classes. For more information on passes, call 425-413-POOL(7665).

Rentals
The pool and rental room are scheduled to be available for rentals on Saturdays and Sundays. Other times may also be available. To check availability or for more information on rentals, call 425-413-POOL(7665).

Facilities

Pool: The pool is six lanes wide and 100’ long with depths ranging from 3 feet to 12 feet. The pool has two sections separated by a moveable bulkhead. Typically, the pool is configured with six lanes of 25 yards in the deep end of the pool and a small open section in the shallow end. Water temperature is kept at 85ºF. Pool amenities include the following: 1-meter diving board, 31-foot flume water slide, “Big Red” the large octopus inflatable, the floating magic carpet, rope swing, water polo goals, aquatic lift entry, and spectator area.

Rental Room: A small room is available for rental with an approximate capacity of 15 adults (or 20 children). Amenities include refrigerator/freezer, microwave, tables, and chairs.

Pool Closure Policy
During inclement weather, the Aquatic Center may close due to road conditions or other hazards. If the Aquatic Center is closed, it will be posted on the Parks & Recreation Online Registration webpage and recorded on the Aquatic Center phone system, 425-413-POOL(7665).

FAQs
What temperature is the pool? The pool is temperature is maintained at 85ºF (±1º). While some users desire a cooler pool, and others want a warmer pool, this is the "happy medium."

What is required to work at the Aquatic Center? The Aquatic Center is a great place to work. To be eligible for hire, applicants for lifeguard positions must have current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training & First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and have passed the Northwest Lifeguard Test. Applicants for Water Safety Instructors (swim lesson instructors) must have all current certifications required for lifeguarding and be an authorized American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
